One large advantage to living in Rexburg, Idaho Falls or any of the surrounding areas, is being able to attend the Eastern Idaho Stair Fair every Fall.  This year is the 110th annual fair and in special celebration the theme is a Barnyard Birthday Bash. Over 219,000 visitors attend the fair every year for an unforgettable experience for all ages. The administrators of the fair do a fantastic job at making sure there is something entertaining happening at all times.  Butler Amusements will be putting on the Carnival this year and boast being the largest carnival company in the Western United States. An entry fee includes access to over 60 food venders, 70 concessionaires, and 200 commercial exhibitors. You are missing out if you don’t take time to enjoy eating a tiger ear, funnel cake or turkey leg before leaving the fair.

To make this year’s fair more memorable take time to experience some of the free entertainment and activities that are offered. There are two Free Stages which feature professional and local performances daily.  Some of the highlights on the 2012 free agenda include country music artist Charley Jenkins, the 20th Annual Idaho State Arm Wrestling Championship, Hypnotist Michael Swenson, and the Doo-Wah Riders. Along with the free stages is an interactive educational exhibit for children, a petting zoo, and, for the 2012 Fair, live sharks! The Live Shark Encounter will be going on 3-4 times each day.

Exhibitors from all over travel to the fair to compete for cash prizes as they show their horses, cattle, goats, swine, sheep and poultry. After a year preparing, 4-H and FFA students show their animals and crafts as they also compete for prizes. Prizes are awarded for all kinds of displays throughout the week including photography, needlecraft, cooking, antiques, etc.

The Grandstand Arena pulls large attendance for the entertainment going on there day and night. It is located at the center of the fairgrounds. During the day, several events are in motion including  barrel racing, horse pulling and a junior rodeo. Each night, an entry fee grants you access to watch things like Bull Riding Competitions, Rodeos, a Tractor Pull, FreestyleMX, Popular Rock and Country Concerts , and the yearly sell-out Demolition Derby. The two for one rock concert this year featured Three Dog Night and Heart for $38. For tickets or more information visit or the fair office.

Living in Rexburg for nearly all my life I have loved all the activities to do all year round. My family looks forward to the Fall especially to visit the Fair in Blackfoot. We have been able to create some are our favorite memories there as a family. The rides, food and concerts are our favorite.” Tina

“As a resident of Rigby, I look forward to the fall for hunting, the outdoors and the State Fair. Visiting several other State Fairs, I am proud of Eastern Idaho’s, as others didn’t even compare.” Jared
